Community High School District 155 is Hiring a Special Education Paraprofessional (anticipated) Near CRYSTAL LAKE, IL

Haber Oaks Campus, within Community High School District 155, has an anticipated opening for a special education paraprofessional (classroom aide) for the 2023-2024 school year. Special education paraprofessionals are paid at paraprofessional level 2 on the salary schedule found in the 2023-2028 CHESS Negotiation AgreementPlease review the job description below.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The paraprofessional is responsible for providing direct services to certified special education staff in providing services for the students within the special education program.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Illinois state licensure Paraprofessional, Substitute or PEL 
  • High degree of interpersonal relations and communication skills
  • Evidence of good organizational skills
  • Evidence of good judgment, trustworthiness, flexibility and emotional maturity
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and is self-directed

 SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Exhibits professionalism and commitment through punctuality and attendance. Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations. 
  • Supports the goals and objectives of the school district, assists the teacher in upholding and enforcing both school and district rules, policies and procedures.
  • Assists with strategies for maintaining orderly classroom behavior on an individual and group basis
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Works with teachers to establish and maintain open and positive lines of communication with students, staff, and parents concerning academics and student behavior.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and some outside duty. 
  • Assists students with personal care and physical needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting or positioning. 
  • Must be able to lift and or push 50 - 150 lbs
  • Conforms to safety standards as prescribed
  • May perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) when necessary. 
  • Performs various clerical and record-keeping tasks. 
  • Help manage the behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed. 
  • Establishes and maintains positive communications and relations with staff.
  • Participates in staff development training programs, faculty meetings and special events as assigned. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the identified building supervisor or designee
  • Maintains a professional level of confidentiality concerning personnel and student information

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk, see, hear, and type on a computer or device. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, use stairs, or crouch. In addition, the employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
